Firearms trafficking charges laid against Lloydminster teen
Lloydminster… An 18-year-old from Lloydminster has been charged with firearms trafficking. ALERT seized 18 firearms, including some that are believed to have been stolen.
ALERT Lloydminster’s organized crime team made the firearms seizure on June 4, 2025. The firearms were seized at a rural residence near Marwayne, Alta. and RCMP Kitscoty provided assistance.
Marwayne is approximately 40 kilometres northwest of Lloydminster.
ALERT alleges the suspect was attempting to illegally sell the firearms online. None of the firearms were lawfully possessed and one of the firearms had its serial number removed. Some are believed to have been stolen and ALERT continues to investigate.
ALERT also seized ammunition and prohibited over-capacity magazines.
“It’s not unreasonable to say that this seizure provided a huge intervention towards keeping the community safe. More often than not, someone acquiring stolen firearms is using them to commit further criminal offences,” said Insp. Brad Lundeen, ALERT.
The seized firearms will be submitted for forensic analysis and ballistics testing to ALERT’s Provincial Firearms Lab. The lab is able to restore serial numbers and determine if the firearms were used in any crimes.
Zachary Gayton, 18-year-old from Lloydminster, is charged with weapons trafficking, amongst other firearms-related offences.
Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous.
