Lloydminster, AB/SK – Residents and businesses are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and take part in Lloydminster’s annual community cleanup, which features two seasonal initiatives: Pitch-In Week, presented by Mary Brown’s, and the Household Recycling Roundup, presented by Alberta Recycling Management Authority.
Pitch-In Week – Presented by Mary Brown’s
April 27 to May 3
The City of Lloydminster is calling on residents to participate in the annual Pitch-In Week, presented by Mary Brown’s to help beautify the community this spring. Whether sweeping sidewalks, picking up litter during a walk, or tidying up your yard, your efforts are appreciated – even small actions can make a big difference.
Pitch-In Kits
To help residents get started, the City is offering free Pitch-In Kits. Kits must be reserved by April 20 at Lloydminster.ca/PitchIn. Once reserved, kits can be picked up beginning April 22 at the Operations Centre at 6623 52 Street. A limited number of extra kits will also be available for walk-ins.
Each kit includes:
• Safety orientation and sharps protocol
• Garbage bags and nitrile gloves
• Sharps kit (container and tongs)
• Colouring contest pages and crayons for kids
• A small token of appreciation
Youth Art and Colouring Contest
Children and youth are also invited to get creative and share their vision for a clean community. Activity sheets are available at City Hall, the Lloydminster Public Library (LloydMall), the Operations Centre, or at Lloydminster.ca/PitchIn.
• Ages 4-8: Complete a colouring activity
• Ages 9-16: Submit original artwork showcasing their favourite way to pitch-in
Submissions are due by 5 p.m. on May 3, either by dropping them off at City Hall (4420 50 Avenue) or emailing yourvoice@lloydminster.ca.
Winners will be chosen by public vote on the City’s social media channels from May 5 to 9. In the case of a tie, the City will select the final winner. Artwork will be displayed at Mary Brown’s, 18th Street Crossing location, following the voting period.
Household Recycling Roundup – Presented by Alberta Recycling Management Authority
Saturday, May 2 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Lloydminster Exhibition — South parking lot
Organized by the Recycling Roundup Committee in partnership with the City of Lloydminster, the RM of Britannia #502 and RM of Wilton #472, the Household Recycling Roundup provides a free and environmentally safe way for residents to dispose of household hazardous materials.
Accepted items include:
• Aerosols cans
• Antifreeze
• Batteries (wet and dry)
• Cellphones
• Cleaning products and solvents
• Drugs and pills
• Fertilizers
• Laptops and
notebooks
• Medications
• Metal
• Monitors and printers
• Paint and paint containers
• Pesticides and weed killers
• Propane tanks
• Sharps (in a puncture- proof container)
• Tires (not permitted for pickup)
• Toxic products
• TVs
• Used oils
• Used oil filters
• Various household electronics
Items must be in household quantities. Please bag any leaky or damaged containers. Instructions for taping battery terminals are available online at Lloydminster.ca/RR.
Free curbside pickup is available for residents who are unable to attend in person. To schedule a pickup, call 639-840-3993 before 6 p.m. on May 1. Items must be properly contained and ready for collection. After dropping off your materials, visit the family area and enjoy a charitable barbecue, with proceeds supporting Kiwanis Club Lloydminster.
