“Spread a Little Love this Christmas Celebrates 10 Years with Lloyd Co–op”
November 4, 2024– Lloydminster AB/SK – Nearly 900 local senior citizens will receive a Christmas gift this year, all thanks to Lloydminster and District Co–op’s annual Spread a Little Love this Christmas program.
Lloydminster and District Co–op created the program as a way for citizens to share the holiday spirit with senior citizens in Lloydminster and surrounding communities.
After 10 years of running the ‘Spread a Little Love this Christmas’ program, we’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community in fulfilling the holiday wishes of our local seniors,” said Emelie Currie, Director of Marketing of Lloydminster and District Co–op. “From gift cards for holiday meals to warm winter clothing, this program allows us to give back to those who helped build Lloyd Co–op. Every year, the ornaments are picked off the tree so quickly—it’s clear that the community looks forward to participating in this campaign just as much as we do. It’s a true reflection of the spirit of giving that defines us
With support from The Olive Tree and local Health Authorities, Lloydminster and District Co–op collects the Christmas wishes of almost 900 local senior citizens residing in Lloydminster and area. The seniors’ name and wishes are written on ornaments, then placed on Christmas trees at Lloydminster and District Co–op’s grocery stores and gas bars.
With the addition of five senior’s housing complexes in 2021 – Padua Place, Hallsholme, Southridge Manor, Fellowship Village, and Knox Manor – Spread a Little Love this Christmas provides gifts to seniors residing in 19 unique locations across six communities.
Jana Thompson, COO of The Olive Tree shared “We’re thrilled to be a part of the 10th annual ‘Spread a Little Love this Christmas’ campaign in partnership with Lloydminster and District Co–op. Each year, our community steps up to support and bring joy to our local seniors, reminding them they’re valued and cared for. Last year, thanks to the generosity of our community, we distributed 307 gifts, and we hope to continue this heartfelt tradition. Every ornament taken represents not only a gift but a connection, and we are so grateful for everyone who makes this campaign possible.”
Citizens of Lloydminster and area are encouraged to visit one of Lloydminster and District Co–op’s grocery stores or gas bars to choose an ornament from the Christmas tree. After the gift is purchased, the customer can bring the gift back to a participating Lloyd Co–op location. Additional centres include Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centre, Dr. Hemstock, Hearthstone Place, Jubilee Home, Lloydminster Continuing Care Centre, Manitou Housing (Neilburg), Southview Manor (Marsden), Paradise Hill Care Home, Pine Island Lodge (Maidstone), Pioneer Lodge, Pioneer House, Points West Living, Tighnduin Home (Lashburn), and Lloydminster Metis Housing Authority. The campaign runs Tuesday, November 4 to Friday, December 6, 2024. All gifts will be given to local seniors prior to Christmas Day.
