Lloydminster/Maidstone RCMP investigating counterfeit currency
Lloydminster, AB/SK – Lloydminster and Maidstone RCMP are currently investigating several incidents involving counterfeit currency being distributed within the city.
Since mid-August 2025, police have received seven reports of counterfeit Canadian bills being used in local businesses. The counterfeit currency has primarily been in the form of $50 and $100 denominations.
Lloydminster RCMP is seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect(s) believed to be responsible for passing these bills. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
Local businesses are encouraged to carefully inspect $50 and $100 bills before accepting them. The Bank of Canada provides resources and training material on how to verify security features on Canadian currency.
“Counterfeit money directly impacts businesses and the community as a whole,” says Lloydminster RCMP Sgt. Christopher Byford. “We encourage vigilance and reporting to help us stop the circulation of these bills.”
